Our Initiatives | Ecosan Dry Toilet Processor System

 

Kimberly (Kim) King one of our contributors was successful at co-authoring a scientific paper about safe, ecological sanitation (ecosan) dry toilet system processor that can service up to 20 persons. The paper was published on 30 July 2019 in the International Water Association (IWA) Blue-Green Systems Journal.

 

The Kailash Ecovillage project converting human excreta into organic foodstuffs and sanitized compost using new international building codes for compost toilet and urine diversion systems 

 

This system was the focus of this paper was permitted in Portland, OR on 18 Sept 2019. Also, this system exceeds USEPA Biosolids A and National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) 41 Guidelines.

 

This systems can be designed to be a revenue generating opportunity, and can reduce infrastructure stress on a local municipality.

Kim also has an agile, adaptable, modular single-user design that has been reviewed by the California Water Resource Control Engineer, who offered, "This system is a great idea, and not a huge threat to the environment."
